Sleeping Position of a Baby

If a baby often sleeps face down, will the position cause trouble?

Doctor’s Advice:

Babies should not be allowed to sleep exclusively on the back, one side, or the abdomen. There are many infants who are comfortable if allowed to sleep for long periods of time in this position.

We prefer for a baby to sleep most of the time on the abdomen, with periodic changes to other positions. When a baby does sleep on the abdomen, there should be no pillow or blankets under his head, and the sheet under him should be pulled tight.
